FPL Gameweek 4 Tips: Captain Picks, Transfers and Differentials
A practical FPL Gameweek 4 guide covering captain choices, transfer priorities, differentials and the final deadline checklist.
Gameweek 4 is the moment to use the first matches as evidence without overreacting to one score. Focus on secure minutes, attacking involvement and the next run of fixtures before making a transfer.
The Gameweek 4 approach
Start by checking injuries, suspensions and likely minutes. A player with a strong fixture is only useful when his place in the starting XI is secure.
Avoid rebuilding your squad around last week's points. Compare each move over the next three to five Gameweeks and keep a free transfer when there is no clear upgrade.
Captain picks
Premium attackers should remain the starting point for captaincy. Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland offer proven scoring potential, while Cole Palmer can be considered when his fixture and expected minutes are favourable.
Choose the player with the best combination of goal involvement, penalties, fixture quality and minutes. A differential captain can gain rank, but it also adds unnecessary risk when a reliable premium has a strong matchup.
Transfer targets
Prioritise players who improve your team for several weeks. Cody Gakpo, Morgan Rogers and Alexander Isak may deserve attention depending on price, role, fitness and the upcoming schedule.
Do not buy a player only because his transfer count is rising. Confirm his position, recent involvement and expected playing time with the player statistics and fixtures pages before committing.
Differential picks
Low ownership alone does not make a good differential. Look for secure starters who take shots, create chances or have set-piece responsibility, then check whether the short-term fixtures support the move.
An attacking defender or midfielder with a repeatable route to points is usually safer than a player relying on an unusually high conversion rate.
Wildcard strategy
A Wildcard should solve several structural problems, not one disappointing Gameweek. Use it when injuries, rotation risks and poor fixtures affect multiple positions and a new squad has clear medium-term value.
If your core players are starting and your main problems can be fixed with one or two free transfers, patience is often the stronger strategy.
